Overview
Sabratact is a large scale team sport designed for tournament contests which include hundreds of athletes. These sporting events are suitable for televised coverage. Amateur and professional Sabratact teams compete together. As a spectator sport, Sabratact is best presented to sports fans through the various visual media including live action television, video, and film. Sabratact Battle Courses are large scale and have groomed open ground as is seen with golf fairways.
The visual nature of the sport implies television. Professional Sabratact athletes will be paid out of television revenues generated by their teams. Corporate sponsorship for professional teams and prize money for tournament events will also be based on television coverage and viewer ratings.
Athletes
Sabratact is a full contact, martial, team sport where points are scored against fighters. The target / weapon system requires close contact. The size and strength of Sabratact athletes contribute to the dynamics of the killing zone. However, experience has shown that more successful Sabratact fighters are often smaller, better conditioned, with martial training, and finesse. Superior team players are more effective than stereotypical (gladiator type) virtuosos. The smallest Sabratact athletes should probably weigh about 100 pounds and be about 5 feet tall in order to be effective in all contests. At that size, fighters are able to compete with any athlete on the Battle Course no matter how large.
Equipment
Sabratact targets are mounted rigidly on the surface of uniform armor. Leather provides strength, flexibility, and powerful design images. Under the leather armor, an athlete should be protected by karate pants and a fencing jacket. Gloves should be of Hockey or Lacrosse type/weight.
Sabratact helmets have a fencing mask base with leather features added to the top, sides, and back. Leather torso armor covers the shoulders, chest, and the back of the athlete. Gauntlets, chaparajos, and puttees are optional.
Weapons are made of high-tech Delrin plastic and are in single blade or multi blade designs including long and short swords, lances, and javelins. Most athletes carry shields of various material, size, and shape.
Equipment sales will initially be direct, over the WEB. Local shop sales will be rolled out regionally to match the timing of televised Sabratact tournaments and Battle Course openings. Equipment is currently available in limited quantities by contacting us directly via e-mail.
Training
A variety of athletic activities are important as training for Sabratact. Running, of course, is fundamental. Martial arts such as Kempo or Kendo which emphasize more hand strikes and fewer kicks or throw moves are important. Fencing classes, naturally, deliver the appropriate weapon skills.
Full contact team sports such as Football and Lacrosse are also directly related to the Sabratact Battle Course experience. Sabratact periods are timed as in boxing, with a short intermission between periods. Aerobic conditioning is critical because the fighting and movement are intense during periods of play.
Getting Started
Sabratact is a martial team sport. The smallest team is the five-fighter Squad. To prepare for Sabratact competition, form a Squad and start training together. Acquire fencing jackets and karate pants. Buy fencing masks and take fencing lessons. Go to karate class as a group. Run together as a group. Play contact team sports. Buy hockey gloves and start collecting Sabratact weapons to practice with. Finally, purchase Sabratact armor. Then contact other Sabratact clubs to scrimmage with and to form a larger team. Agree among yourselves who will be the leader when you have a Platoon. Someone must be Lieutenant and when you have a Company someone must be Centurion. When in doubt, fight it out.
