Rules for Scoring

Targets are carried at various locations on the Sabratact helmet and body armor. Each of these targets has a point value. The surface material of each target will rupture when it is struck with the weapon. Accurate thrust or slash blows will always break the target. Inaccurate or deflected blows will fail. Athletes normally carry a shield and must always wear a helmet.

Fighters start the contest with 100 total points each. As targets are broken points are scored against each fighter. These points are added together and deducted from the grand total of the smaller team (100 points x number of fighters) and this score is divided by the number of players on the smaller team to arrive at the score for each team.

If, for example, a Platoon with twenty fighters starts a match with 2000 total points and has 600 points struck against it, then its final score would be 1400 divided by 20 or 70 points.

If the opposing Platoon has twenty-five fighters and has 650 points recorded against it their total score would also be subtracted from 2000 to equal 1350 and then divided by 20 to become 67.5 points. The smaller team would win by a score of 70 to 67.5, therefore.

Bonus points are awarded against a team when officer goal targets carried on the helmet of each officer are broken. These points are subtracted from the total as part of the calculation. If, in the example, the smaller Platoon had their lieutenant's goal target broken by a larger team fighter, then 100 additional points would have been scored against it. Their total of 600 would have become 700. Subtracting 700 from 2000, their score would be 1300 divided by 20 to become 65. In this case the larger team would now win by a score of 67.5 to 65.

HEART Target: One target located on either breast (left side for right handed fighters): 20 points. When this target is broken the fighter is killed. The athlete may continue to play until the end of the current period, but retires from the field during the next intermission.

TORSO Targets: Three for a total of 30 points. These are scored with increasing values, 5 points for the first, 10 points for the second, and 15 points for the third. One target is positioned opposite the "heart" target on the other side of the chest. One target is positioned at the center line (solar plexus) below the heart/chest targets to form an equilateral triangle. The third torso target is positioned an equal distance down from the "solar plexus" target, also on the center line and is known as the "belly" target.

BACK Targets: Four for a total of 20 points. These also score with increasing values, 2 points for the first, 4 points for the second, 6 points for the third, and 8 points for the fourth. The two upper back targets are the right and left "lung" targets and these are positioned opposite the heart/chest targets and at the same level. The two lower back targets are the right and left "kidney" targets. These are located directly below the lung targets and equidistant between the level of the solar plexus and belly targets.

LIMB Targets: Four for a total of 10 points. These score with increasing values, 1 point for the first target struck, 2 for the second, 3 for the third, and 4 for the fourth target struck. Two such targets are located midway between the shoulder and the elbow on the outer arms and two are located just below the hip on the outer thighs.

HEAD Targets: Two targets for a total of 20 points. Each target is valued at 10 points. These are presented at the forward part of the helmet on the right and left sides of the forehead and at approximately 45 degree angles to the front-line of the helmet.

Fighter Target values:
Heart Target: 20 points
Torso Targets: 30 points
Back Targets: 20 points
Limb Targets: 10 points
Head Targets: 20 points
Total: 100 points

OFFICER GOAL Targets: One target is carried on the helmet of each Field Officer and is valued according to rank. This target is located at the helmet center line, between the other two "head" targets, and back far enough to also be set at a 45 degree angle from the plane of the front of the helmet.
